the street lamp casts a greasy glow. a halo of indifference. i take the halo and place it around the neck of democracy in the groundless hope it might make a difference.

a greasy glow - that is superb, pristeen - extremely loaded imagery in that. I recognise it as I've walked in greasy glows many a time - just never came up with a way of describing it.
a halo is both 'groundless' and indifferent, of course since when are there ever absolutes?
Call me jaded, but does it make a difference? Your poem begs the sad question.
it isn't that i am against democracy. not at all but what we have, both here in the uk and in the usa, is a pretense of democracy.
for example america has the death penalty. we don't. if you were to ask the uk to vote on the death penalty hanging would be reintroduced in double quick time. i wouldn't like that but the point i am making is this, at times our elected governments use the fact that we elected them into power as an umberella form of democracy. that by having our vote that they then do not have to ask our opinions and on a lot of subjects they do not want to hear our opinions but take the view that they know best.
Oh fuck democracy, communism, politics in every vein it can be. People should be free, to mix, to meet, to travel without passports, to live where they want to live, to breath where they choose to breath.
Now I sound like a fucking hippie.
Fuck.
what makes democracy such a joy is the ease with which it is corrupted.
prick>>>a regular david crosby.
