Interruptions

Sitting quietly,
listening to
voices:
harsh, calm, strange—

and silent.

Waiting for something

to happen, for perhaps
a miracle.

For a time when this turbulent

sea of wasted breath
shall
sink into peace.

Stillness will pervade.

But before that,
there’ll
be that ominous, almost
disconcerting

calm…

Perceptive of the subtile differences in quiet moments. Thanks for taking us with you through them.

Have you ever noticed a unique moment when, in a sea of noise, suddenly all the noise dissolves and there is an unexpected quiet?

Thanks for your comment.

Thanks. Hope to see you around.

Yes, I can think of three such types of unexpected quiet at the moment and I'm sure there are more. Those are auditory moments that can startle or amaze the perciever and, as such, are of legitimate poetic interest for such a reflective lad as yourself.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for your comment. I would be interested in knowing the types of moments sometime, from your perspective.

Waiting.... waiting... waiting... Most of us sit and wait hoping the miraculous will happen. At times when we are most reflective, does the calm make sense.

I loved this poem!

Our first acquaintance I believe. Welcome and thank you for putting into prose most of what I tried to say in the poem.
